Latest Shenmue III Update Revolves Around Story Building and Plot Structure

Over on Shenmue III‘s Kickstarter page, Ys Net has posted a video interview with Director Yu Suzuki, in which he discusses story building, pacing, plot structures, and more. We’re told that “intrigue, adventure and drama” define the Shenmue series, which has “ignited our imaginations.”

Suzuki is of the view that games and films both now require multiple themes to keep the audience interested. He said, for instance, that mere romance in a love story doesn’t cut it so one might want to make a movie about car racing and romance, both. With regards to video games, he said that if players are going to invest 30 hours or more of their time, they’ll need multiple themes to keep them interested.

The full interview is about six minutes and offers interesting insight into Shenmue‘s theme and video game narratives. You can check it out above.

Shenmue III is expected to release in December 2017 for the PlayStation 4 and PC. However, prior reports have suggested that the title might slip into 2018 and there’s been rumblings of Shenmue I and II HD remasters releasing this year. SEGA has offered no comment on the rumor yet.
