Middle-Earth: Shadow of War Developer Video Reveals New Nemesis System

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is set to be bigger and better than its predecessor and the Nemesis System, one of the best features of Shadow of Mordor, is making a return in Shadow of War in a big way. In a new developer video released by IGN, Monolith Productions Vice President of Creative Michael de Plater previews some of the new features of the Nemesis System, namely the Nemesis Forts.

In Shadow of War, players will encounter several Nemesis Forts, which are strongholds inhabited by several warchiefs and ruled by an overlord. Players will have the option to siege the fortress right away or lure out and take down the warchiefs one by one to weaken the stronghold before assaulting it. Once Nemesis Forts have been conquered, a player can install his own overlord and gain influence in the region.

The video also reveals that orc tribes will be a big factor in the game, affecting not only the way players deal with enemies and Nemesis Forts but also how the regions and fortresses under their control will look and operate depending on the tribe the ruling overlord is from.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 4 and other platforms on August 22, 2017.
