At the Famitsu Awards 2016, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life won an Excellence Award following which the publication interviewed the series’ general director, Toshihiro Nagoshi. During the chat, he confirmed that he’s already working on the next title in the series.
“I’m already working on the next title. In the not too distant future, I think there will be an opportunity to talk about the next game’s development in a relatively early stage,” he told the magazine, according to a translation via Gematsu.
Don’t expect anything to do with the series’ beloved protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, however, as his story is over for good. We’re also told that Yakuza‘s new Dragon Engine will be completed with the development of another title or two. It certainly doesn’t seem like the series will be over anytime soon.
Yakuza 6 is headed to the West early next year. In the meantime, you can get your hands on Yakuza Kiwami on August 29 or Yakuza 0, which released this past January in the West.
