Kadokawa Corporation’s Managing Director, Hirokazu Hamamura, has said that he expects Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time‘s sales to top five million units in Japan. Speaking at The Present Conditions and Prospects of the Game Industry seminar in Tokyo, he said that the upcoming title can outsell Final Fantasy XV and Pokémon Sun & Moon combined.
Siliconera reports that both the aforementioned games have sold roughly one million and four million in the country, respectively. Explaining his statement, Hamamura said that Dragon Quest XI is likely to reach that ambitious number due to an eventual Nintendo Switch release and an increase in fan base owing to Dragon Quest smartphone titles.
“The destructive force that is Dragon Quest software is on a completely different level,” said Hamamura. “There will likely be people who buy both the PlayStation 4 and 3DS versions as well.”
Japanese players will get their hands on Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time on June 29 with a Double Pack: Hero Sword Box on offer that bundles the PS4 and 3DS versions together.
