Following a recent report by video game historian Liam Robertson claiming BioWare’s new IP is a Destiny-styled game (code named Dylan), Kotaku’s Jason Schreier has confirmed that he’s heard the same. However, he also said that reports of BioWare Austin exclusively working on Star Wars games might not be true and although the studio did “play around with a Knights of the Old Republic prototype,” the project didn’t go ahead. Schreier writes:
What I’ve heard separately, from people familiar with goings-on at the studio, is that BioWare Austin did indeed play around with a Knights of the Old Republic prototype, but that it hasn’t been greenlit and is not currently in development. I’ve also heard that the majority of BioWare Austin is working on the company’s new IP, which is headed up by BioWare’s Edmonton studio and should be officially announced at E3. That new IP is a Destiny-ish game code-named Dylan, as Liam Robertson correctly reported in a separate Patreon post.
Schreier also reached out to Robertson to clarify his comments on BioWare Austin, to which he said that he may have misspoke about KOTOR but believes that the prototype “may have evolved into something else.” However, he is very confident that BioWare Austin is currently working on something Star Wars-related.
We’ll have to wait to find out. In the meantime, we’re expecting Dylan at E3.
