According to SuperData’s digital games report for February 2017, the worldwide market rose 4% year-over-year to $7.83 billion. The console and mobile categories were up 8% and 9%, respectively, while pay-to-play, free-to-play, and social all fell.
Just looking at the United States, digital revenue was up 6.4% year-over-year across console, PC, and mobile games. “Console digital revenue grew an impressive 18% year-over-year due in part to an increase in the average selling price of digital units,” SuperData added.
Here’s the top ten grossing console games in February 2017, ranked by worldwide digital revenue:
- FIFA 17
- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Battlefield 1
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
- ARK: Survival Evolved
- For Honor
- Madden NFL 17
- Destiny
- NBA 2K17
FIFA 17 repeated at #1, and digital revenue was up double-digits over FIFA 16 in February 2016. Additionally, Ultimate Team console revenue was up 15% year-over-year.
Although Battlefield 1 finished in 4th in overall digital revenue, it actually sold more digital copies than Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Titanfall 2 combined, across all platforms. Thanks to the release of Sabotage though, Infinite Warfare was #1 in Additional Content revenue.
For Honor was the only new release to crack the top 10, and SuperData says it sold more than 700,000 digital copies across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
