Project Sonic 2017 Is Called Sonic Forces, Sonic Mania Delayed to Summer 2017

During the SEGA SXSW panel yesterday, it was revealed that Project Sonic 2017 is officially called Sonic Forces, and the first gameplay clip was shown off (above). “Sonic blasts through a city under siege by Death Egg Robot sentinels in this first look at Sonic Forces,” the video’s description says.

Sonic Forces releases in holiday 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Additionally, SEGA announced that Sonic Mania has suffered a delay and will now launch in summer 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, instead of spring 2017. Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka sent this statement to IGN, explaining the delay:

For SEGA, quality is most important. We stated this last year, and we are committed to doing whatever it takes to make Sonic games the highest quality possible. Though we like to go fast, sometimes, for a great game, you must also wait.

Additionally, it was revealed that the classic Flying Battery zone is returning in Sonic Mania:
