Nioh’s Global Success Opened Up a New Audience for Koei Tecmo, Says Company President

Thanks to its “strong” performance worldwide alongside positive critic reviews and fan reception, Nioh has become quite a success story for Koei Tecmo and the company is understandably “very happy” about it. In an interview with MCV, president Hisashi Koinuma opened up about the title’s performance, stating that it validated the company’s efforts.

“At Koei Tecmo we have always taken pride in the historical elements and Japanese character of our IP line up,” said Koinuma. “With Nioh, we have worked tirelessly to bring the essence and the spirit of that trademark direction into a new and challenging action RPG.”

He also showed immense appreciation for Sony Interactive Entertainment for its “invaluable help” in releasing the game’s Alpha and Beta tests, noting that they proved beneficial in shaping the final release via feedback and by giving players an idea of what to expect.

Nioh’s success, as well as the recent western success of titles like Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom and Dead or Alive, is proof that if we follow the right approach and listen to the needs of the players, they will embrace our titles and help our company grow further,” said Koinuma.
