In Take-Two’s Fiscal Third Quarter 2017 (ended December 31, 2016) earnings report today, the company revealed that Mafia III has now shipped approximately five million units since launch. Mafia III shipped 4.5 million copies in its launch week last October, becoming 2K’s fastest-selling game ever.
Take-Two also updated their future titles list, revealing that NBA 2K18 is scheduled for a fall 2017 release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, PC, and iOS/Android. Take-Two’s only other listed game is Red Dead Redemption 2, which launches in fall 2017 for PS4 and Xbox One.
Take-Two saw net revenues grow 15% year-on-year to $476.5 million in Q3, with Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, WWE 2K17, NBA 2K17, and Civilization VI highlighted as the main contributors. Digital revenue was up 64% year-on-year to $240.2 million, thanks to GTAV and GTA Online, Civilization VI, and NBA 2K17.
CEO Strauss Zelnick talked about the strong quarter:
Take-Two had a highly-successful holiday quarter. Consumer demand for our new releases and catalog titles was strong throughout the period, and players continued to engage significantly with our games after purchase. As a result, we delivered better-than-expected bookings, including our best-ever quarter for recurrent consumer spending, along with double-digit growth in both net revenue and net cash provided by operating activities.
He later added that fiscal year 2018 will be led by Red Dead Redemption 2:
Looking ahead, our Company has a robust long-term development pipeline and is better positioned for success than at any time in its history. We expect to grow both bookings and net cash provided by operating activities in fiscal 2018, driven by our release slate led by Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated launch of Red Dead Redemption 2.
As Rockstar Games announced last week, December 2016 saw more players in GTA Online that any month before. “Stay tuned for upcoming info on new updates in the works for GTA Online in 2017,” they added.
