Fox Sets Up New Division for Immersive Entertainment Including Video Games

21st Century Fox has set up a new division, FoxNext, that will focus on immersive entertainment including virtual reality and video games. Variety reports that the division will be led by Fox veteran Salil Mehta, who joined the company in 2013.

“He will oversee video gaming, location-based entertainment, virtual and augmented reality productions,” writes the publication. “The studio is aiming to drive the company’s next-generation storytelling experiences.”

FoxNext will oversee the production of studio franchise virtual reality experiences, such as the already announced “Alien” and “Planet of the Apes.”  FoxNext will also combine the efforts of the video gaming groups responsible for “The Simpsons: Tapped Out” mobile game and the “Alien: Isolation” console/PC game into one new interactive unit.

Fox isn’t a new name in the video game business. The now defunct Fox Interactive was a video game developer and publisher that worked on 20th century Fox properties for a number of platforms. The group has also served as distributor for titles such as Alien: Isolation.
