Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Now Works on PlayStation TV

Back in June of 2016, Konami released Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and its standalone expansion, Portable Ops Plus, for the PlayStation Vita and PS TV in North America. Well, sort of. The game unfortunately ran into issues on the PlayStation TV, and was unplayable for users.

Now, six months later, the issue has finally been resolved. Konami went to the official Metal Gear Solid Twitter account to share the good news. “Working with Sony we resolved an issue allowing Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops to work on PSTV,” wrote the publisher. “Let us know if you still have issues with these titles, hopefully all issues are universally resolved, but we’ll follow up to make sure.”

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops was originally released in 2006 for the PlayStation Portable. The game takes place after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and stars Naked Snake as he fights the military unit he used to belong to. It was followed up by 2010’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

Portable Ops was one of the few games in the Metal Gear Solid series to not be directed by series creator Hideo Kojima, although he did serve as producer. Instead, the title was helmed by Masahiro Yamamoto. This had led to many debates among friends on whether or not the game is canonical, due to Kojima omitting the game from timelines and promotional material. That stigma is gone now, however, as Kojima no longer at Konami or involved with the series.
