Ark: Survival Evolved for PS4 Submitted to Sony, Aiming for December 2016 Release

In a recent Twitch stream featuring Studio Wildcard Co-Founder Jeremy Stieglitz, it was revealed that Ark: Survival Evolved for PlayStation 4 is currently in submission at Sony, with release possibly happening in early December if no issues are discovered.

Reddit user Steel_Cub compiled a list of the important facts from the stream (which includes PS4 gameplay), including the fact that the PS4 version is equivalent to the Xbox One version in terms of performance. At launch, the PS4 version of Ark: Survival Evolved will feature the same client version as Xbox One and both should be updated at the same time on a regular basis going forward.

Here’s a few more pieces of information from the stream:

  • If you play Survival Evolved on PS4 Pro, you’ll find increased resolution and frame-rate
  • PS4 servers will be separate from Xbox One at launch, but they’ll look into cross-play in the future
  • There will be dedicated servers and you can host your own
  • PlayStation VR support won’t happen at launch, but they’ll look into it
  • There’s split-screen couch co-op
  • The PS4 port was developed in partnership with Abstraction Games
  • Ark: Survival Evolved will launch digitally at first, then physically in 2017. They don’t know the price yet as they still need to have conversations with Sony (the game is $30 USD on Steam)
  • The Scorched Earth expansion pack will be available for PS4 on day one (it’s $20 USD on Steam)
  • An official announcement for Survival Evolved’s launch on PS4 should happen next week
  • Procedurally-generated maps are coming to PS4 and Xbox One this year.
  • The UI will be overhauled next year

As for Ark: Survival of the Fittest, it isn’t being ported to PS4 or Xbox One yet. Studio Wildcard is waiting to see if there’s enough demand for it.
