Overwatch’s Play of the Game Feature Will Be Revamped, Says Blizzard

At BlizzCon 2016, Blizzard Entertainment revealed that Overwatch‘s Play of the Game feature will be overhauled. The developer admitted that there are some flaws in the system and although it’s been tweaking it, there’s a “Play of the Game 2.0” in the works. Speaking to Kotaku, lead hero designer Geoff Goodman said:

There’s a plan to do what we’re calling Play of the Game 2.0. It’s been on the books for a little while. It’s just a matter of prioritizing everything. We have a lot of really cool ideas. We want to do a lot with the camera work. We have ideas for cooperative Play of the Games. Because what we have right now, is Zarya could ult, and then Genji gets the credit. And that’s like, ‘Come on!’”

So we want to highlight the combo play itself, to show both. There’s some tricky things there, like how do we handle Play of the Game intros, and how do we decide who gets credit.

In other Overwatch news, fans asked Blizzard during the event if holiday-specific items like Halloween loot will be available separately in the future. The developer stopped short of confirming anything but said that it’s still experimenting with the loot system and will be consulting community feedback going forward.
