Review aggregator Open Critic has revealed that the Battlefield 1 review embargo is expected to lift on Monday, October 17 at 3am PT/6am ET. The official release for Battlefield 1 is October 21, but those who pre-order the Early Enlister Deluxe Edition ($79.99 USD) will be able to play the full game beginning on October 18.
Currently, EA Access and Origin Access members on Xbox One and PC can play Battlefield 1 via the Play First Trial, which offers 10 hours of limited multiplayer (five maps and four modes) and single-player (Storm of Steel and Through Mud and Blood missions) gameplay.
According to the PlayStation Store, Battlefield 1 for PlayStation 4 is a 42.4GB download. The Early Enlister Deluxe Edition unlocks at 12am ET on October 18, while the standard edition unlocks at 12am ET on October 21.
Thanks to the Play First Trial, it’s been revealed that one of the single-player missions, Through Mud and Blood, lets you play as a pigeon. You can see footage of the sequence beginning at 41:48 of the below video:

During the Great War, man-made communication systems were still crude and unreliable, so dogs and pigeons were used extensively to carry messages. In the War Pigeons game mode the opposing sides compete to use messenger pigeons to call in artillery barrages on the enemy. When the game starts, a pigeon coop with a messenger pigeon is placed somewhere on the map. Locate the pigeon before the enemy and carry it to a safe location out in the open. There you prepare a message and send it off, calling for artillery support. Once a message is successfully sent an artillery barrage will strike the enemy.
