Resident Evil Movies Were Successful Because They Respected Games, Says Director

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter director Paul W.S. Anderson has said that the success of Resident Evil movies can be partially attributed to the creators’ respect for the video game series. Speaking to an audience during a panel at the New York Comic-Con, he was critical of movies that are made without an understanding of the video games that they’re based upon.

This movie is made by people who genuinely adored the video game. No one would ever dream of adapting War and Peace without reading the book, but somehow people have the hubris to adapt a video game without having ever played it or knowing what the fans like about it.

As for the final movie in the franchise, we’re told that it’ll be terrifying with a lot of “big kick-ass action scenes.” Anderson further said:

This is the conclusion to the series, we’re bringing it full circle and all of the questions that have been hanging over it are all going to be answered by this movie. This is the movie where we discover the truth about her and the truth about the Umbrella Corporation.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter releases on December 23 in Japan and January 27, 2017 in the West.
