If you purchased the DriveClub Season Pass before September 29, 2016, you’ll be able to pick up the digital version of DriveClub VR for $19.99 USD/€19.99, Sony announced today. Otherwise, DriveClub VR costs $39.99 USD/€39.99 through both retail stores and the PlayStation Store.
Releasing on October 13, DriveClub VR requires the PlayStation VR headset and PlayStation Camera. A 17.9GB download, DriveClub VR is “packed with the best bits from the hit PlayStation 4 game, along with selected packs from the extensive DLC collection – as well as new and totally bespoke VR modes and features.” In total, you’ll find more than 80 cars, over 100 tracks, five new Urban locations, the ability to play and create driving challenges, and more.
Clearing up any confusion surrounding who made DriveClub VR, Sony Worldwide Studios Immersive Technology Group Principal Programmer Nicola Orru revealed that Evolution Studios did the majority of the work. Since the developer was closed down earlier this year, the remainder of the work was carried out “by a dedicated team comprised of Evolution Studios veterans, several of which now are also members of the WWS Immersive Technology Group.”
Orru also said:
Recreating DriveClub as a standalone VR title was a huge task. As you know, DriveClub had a vast amount of content, so re-engineering the game to render everything in stereoscopic 3D, natively at 60Hz and then adding the head tracking with 120Hz visuals took a long time. In addition, the team added several VR-specific features and made the game look every bit as amazing as you would expect.
If you aren’t interested in DriveClub VR, the new tracks will be added to DriveClub via a free update.
The digital pre-order for DriveClub VR is live on Europe, and should be up soon in North America.
