H1Z1: King of the Kill for PS4 & Xbox One Put On Hold as Daybreak Focuses on the PC Version

Back in February, Daybreak Games said multiplayer shooter H1Z1: King of the Kill would be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in summer 2016. Now, they’ve revealed that the PC version will launch on September 20, but the console versions have been put on hold.

In a blog post, Executive Producer Chris Wynn said he planned on a simultaneous summer release for King of the Kill on all three platforms, but “as we started to execute against that plan, it became apparent that the schedule was just too risky. We were spread too thin trying to fix areas of the game while simultaneously getting the game to work on the console hardware. It became clear that to best line up the game for success was to reduce the number of variables in the equation.”

So, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of H1Z1: King of the Kill have been put on hold as they focus 100% on the PC version. After PC launch on September 20, Daybreak will “focus back to converting that same experience to run on the consoles.” Wynn wouldn’t provide an exact date for the console versions, “since we are committed to doing it the best way possible at the expense of time.”

Wynn also said:

We are committed to delivering a high-quality experience, one that is both satisfying and enjoyable. We are creating a competitive game that is consistent, predictable, fair, and as fun to watch as it is to play. By structuring the plan in this way, we ultimately will achieve higher quality targets and not put the game in a situation where we have to compromise quality to hit a date.

H1Z1: Just Survive, the new name for H1Z1, was planned for consoles back in February, but nothing was mentioned about it today. Since it’s expected to remain in Steam Early Access through 2016, we likely won’t hear anything further until 2017.
