Deus Ex: Mankind Divided released only yesterday, and even with the glowing critic praise, the game is having a bit of a rough time appeasing many users. One issue of contention lies within its microtransactions, which allow players to purchase credits as well as Praxis kits. No one has much issue with purchasing in-game money with real money, but hackles have been raised over the ability to buy Praxis kits. A Praxis kit awards Praxis points, which are then used to purchase new augmentations or upgrades to augmentations. Several players have accused Eidos Montreal of making the game unbalanced to coerce the player into spending more money on Praxis kits in order to level up properly.
Community manager “Poticha” responded to the subreddit, explaining that the game was not designed with microtransactions in mind.
Hi everyone. We’ve read your concerns, and we just wanted to step in and clarify things here. We have not, and will never, compromise the balance of the game in order to direct people towards microtransactions. The game was balanced 100 per cent independently of the microtransactions available in the store.
Here is the full list of microtransactions available for purchase:
- Breach Chipset Pack (x10) – $0.99
- Breach Chipset Pack (x50) – $4.49
- Breach Chipset Pack (x100) – $7.49
- Breach Chipset Pack (x500) – $29.99
- Praxis Kit Pack – $0.99
- Praxis Kit Pack (x5) – $3.99
- Praxis Kit Pack (x10) – $6.99
- 1000 Credits Pack – $0.99
- 5000 Credits Pack – $4.49
- 10000 Credits Pack – $7.49
- 15000 Credits Pack – $9.99
- Tactical Pack – $4.99
- Assault Pack – $4.99
But the microtransactions are not the only woe Eidos Montreal is dealing with from consumers. Those who preordered the game received codes for preorder-exclusive DLC for in-game items. Users have learned the hard way that once these items are transferred into their inventory, no other playthroughs of the game can use these items. The only way to use the preorder DLC with multiple playthroughs is to keep a save spot before transferring the items to Jensen’s inventory. You want to start a new game and use these items, just load that save, transfer the items again, and then save anew.
Poticha explained on another subReddit why this is the case.
Consumables (Praxis Kits, Ammo, Credits, Crafting Parts) are one-time use items. They will be in the storage section of your inventory, until you decide to add them to it. Once you do, they will be ‘consumed’ in your current playthrough, and not re-usable. Consumables work the way they do due to first party constraints.
Durables (Weapons, Skins, Augmentations) are not one-time use. They will automatically be available in all of your playthroughs, once you have downloaded and installed them.
I somewhat understand what she is saying with the consumables, but still, if the preorder DLC includes consumables, they should be available for no matter how many playthroughs you run. At least there is a work around, as cumbersome and ridiculous as it may be.
