The PlayStation VR Demo Disc Includes “Five Minute Nuggets” From Launch Titles

Included with every single PlayStation VR headset is a demo disc “that will feature a number of playable experiences from some of the best games from the launch line-up.” Sony hasn’t said exactly which titles will be on the disc, but at GamesBeat 2016, PlayStation Senior Researcher Richard Marks revealed approximately how long each demo will last.

Explaining how they’ll get people to buy PlayStation VR, Marks said one way is through the demo disc, which includes “five minute nuggets” of gameplay from various titles:

The reason [a demo disc] is so important in VR is… you can’t have a game for two straight hours that’s completely amazing every bit of it. So if somebody comes over and you want to show them a demonstration of it, you want that ultimate five minutes of awesomeness that you can give somebody. So the demo disc is like these five minute nuggets from each one of the games that encapsulates that.

The other way they’ll sell people on PlayStation VR is through the in-store demos at retailers like GameStop and Best Buy. As Marks reveals, they have 500,000 demos planned by the end of 2016.

Also at launch, The Playroom VR will be offered as a free download through the PlayStation Store to help show off the multiplayer side of PSVR.

If you’re picking up the more expensive PlayStation VR Launch Bundle on October 13, you’ll get a copy of PlayStation VR Worlds, which includes these five “VR experiences:” The London Heist, Into the Deep, VR Luge, Danger Ball, and Scavenger’s Odyssey.
