Announced at E3 2016 for a summer 2016 release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, Pox Nora is now launching in Q4 2016 for PlayStation, Desert Owl Games announced today.
A tactical turn-based strategy game with elements of collectible card games and fantasy RPGs, Pox Nora is already available on PC/Mac, where more than 23 million play sessions have been completed. Pox Nora has an interesting history, having launched in 2006 by the founders of Desert Owl Games, then sold to Sony Online Entertainment a few years later, only to be bought by Desert Owl Games in late 2014 “to continue expanding its universe.”
On July 27, the PC/Mac versions of Pox Nora will receive Planar Disturbances, the 29th expansion. Planar Disturbances (and the 28 previous expansions) will also be included in the PS4 and PS Vita versions when they launch in Q4 2016.
Here’s what’s included with Planar Disturbances:
Planar Disturbances will add 49 new runes, or collectible cards, including 32 champions and two limited-edition versions of existing runes. New equipment and relics like the Phalanx Marker, which provides moves that buff the owner and nearby friendly Champions, will make up the 15 additional runes.
More than 20 new abilities are also coming, including The Bind: Spells, which allows champions to gather buffs as they accumulate kills, and Sabotage which plagues an opponent’s upcoming champion with negative conditions before they’re put into play.
The expansion will introduce a questline that unveils a new threat lurking in the mountains of the mighty dragon Valdac. Those who brave this campaign will be rewarded with a limited-edition version of the fan-favorite champion, Commander Nisk.
Planar Disturbances also builds upon the story arc introduced in the previous expansion, Spirits Beyond.
Desert Owl Games Chief Marketing Officer Linsay Craten said, “Every developer hopes their game will be successful, but never in our wildest dreams did we imagine Pox Nora would enjoy such long-term success. Planar Disturbances is our gift to the decade-long players, and we can’t wait to welcome the PlayStation community into Pox Nora‘s universe.”
Pox Nora is a free-to-play title where you take your deck of Runes (cards) and go through single-player campaigns, skirmishes against the AI, or battles against other players. Decks are unlocked with gold or by playing the faction walkthrough campaigns. According to the above trailer, PC and console cross-play will be included.
