Since the game’s release, players have been confounded about the Dark Souls 3 poise stat, and no one to this day outside of developer From Software knows exactly what it is. No matter how many times the community has asked what in the world it is, all From Software would say is that the stat is “working as intended.” The company gave the following statement to Kotaku when they bluntly asked if the stat was broken.
The poise stat is working as intended and is not ‘turned off’ as some fans have theorized. The stat works differently than in past games and is more situational, which seems to be the reason for the confusion.
That’s great that it works, but what does it do, exactly?
Kotaku again pressed From Software about the stat with series director Hidetaka Miyazaki. He didn’t say what it was, but he said they should have done better in handling it.
This isn’t something we are particularly proud of. With how things are handled now, it can be improved and this is an agenda item we’ll be working on in the future.
Uh-huh, uh-huh. Sounds great, and we’re all thrilled that you will work on how to handle this kind of mystery in the future. But, um, can you please explain what it does now?
