As you may have guessed from the God of War announcement demo at E3 2016, Kratos has a new voice actor.
On Twitter, Christopher Judge (Teal’c from Stargate SG-1) revealed that he’s doing both the voice and motion capture work for Kratos in God of War:
I can now confirm I am Kratos #GodofWar4

TC Carson, who previously voiced Kratos, wrote on Twitter, “To my folk, you’ve been wondering if I am Voicing Kratos in GOW4 I am not. Sony went in a new direction. let em know what you think.”
In other God of War news, Creative Director Cory Barlog revealed in a roundtable attended by Eurogamer that, with the new focus on Norse mythology, they’ve left Greece:
We’ve actually moved away from Greece and Kratos has kind of wandered. We are parsing it as the time in which the vikings spoke of their gods walking the earth. So it’s not in the era where the vikings are around, we’re predating them by a considerable amount of time.
Before they settled on Norse mythology though, Sony Santa Monica considered Egyptian mythology:
Egyptian mythology was the other one and half the team was way into that. All of them had great reasons. I think, for me, as I looked at both of those, Egyptian mythology is about the pharaohs as embodiments of the gods on earth and there’s a lot more about civilisation – it’s less isolated, less barren. I think at this time, we really wanted to focus on Kratos. Having too much around distracts from that central theme of a stranger in a strange land.
If you’re worried about fewer boss fights in God of War, Barlog assured everyone that “the troll fight is a small version of what we really have to show.”
What do you think of the new voice actor?
