E3 2016 – Rocksteady Gunning for “Highly Focused, Very Personal Story” With Batman: Arkham VR

Developer Rocksteady is drawing inspiration from “classic Batman comic books” to create Batman: Arkham VR, the virtual reality spinoff announced during Sony’s presser yesterday evening.

Acting as the studio’s swan song to the Arkham series, Principal Designer Bill Green took to PlayStation Blog to pitch Batman: Arkham VR as “a murder mystery in the style of the classic Batman comic books, but with a strong dose of the dark psychology that the Arkham games are well known for.”

Not only that, coming off the back of Arkham Knight, the VR-centric title will offer up an experience that is “both complementary and a counterpoint to the epic grandeur” of last year’s threequel.

The switch from screens to headsets was a fascinating creative and technical challenge for us, as it has inspired us to really focus on Batman’s detective skills and find new ways to use them. We all feel that we’ve ended up creating an amazing new Batman experience that is both complementary and a counterpoint to the epic grandeur of Batman: Arkham Knight. This time around we’re telling a highly focused, very personal story entirely in first-person.

Batman: Arkham VR will launch exclusively for PlayStation VR in October — likely in and around the hardware’s arrival on October 13.
