Ubisoft Working on Star Trek Game for VR, Will Be Showcased at E3

Ubisoft has announced that it’s working on a Star Trek game for VR, which will be shown off tomorrow during E3 2016. Developed by Red Storm Entertainment and called Star Trek: Bridge Crew, it’s an “interactive four-player experience” that “casts players as the captain or either a tactical, engineering or helm officer aboard the starship Aegis,” according to the details provided to ABC News.

Bridge Crew includes story-based missions as well as randomly generated missions in which players will be required to work together as a team during combat as well as exploration. We’ll be able to complete tasks such as activating the warp drive, scanning objects, and more in virtual space. The game will utilize a VR headset and controllers to mimic these actions. Red Storm’s David Votypka said:

At first, people might think you’re just pushing buttons and that’s lame. However, it’s what the buttons do that makes it cool. You’re on a Federation starship firing torpedoes, raising shields and turning on the red alert. That’s an awesome sensation, especially when you’re playing in VR with friends.

He later added:

It’s up to you if you want to try the Kirk approach or be more methodical. The game is more about how you and your crew approach situations. It’s not binary. Is it more important to save the Vulcan scientists or rescue everyone on the planet? It might be too difficult to do both. It’s just like the show. There’s not any one right answer.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is coming this fall for the PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
