Lara Croft Actress, Alicia Vikander, Says She Wasn’t Allowed to Play Tomb Raider Games

Alicia Vikander (Danish Girl, Ex Machina), who was recently cast to play Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider movie reboot, has revealed that her parents didn’t allow her to play Tomb Raider games but she did secretly anyway, and has been a fan of the franchise. In an interview with Total Film magazine, she said:

I kept it secret – I didn’t have many girlfriends who shared that interest, but I really loved it. I did play Tomb Raider back then, even though my parents said I wasn’t allowed to.

Apparently, Vikander had been wanting to star in a video game-based movie for quite some time now but had to turn down an opportunity to star in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie alongside her boyfriend, Michael Fassbender. It’s unclear what role she was offered.

Elsewhere in the interview, Vikander seemed excited about playing out the action sequences as Lara Croft. Although she’s already been working on her physicality, she believes the movie will take her to new heights.

I danced for many years. I really enjoy the aspect of being able to work with my physicality. In one way, I can probably do that unconsciously. But in this, it’s going to be a whole other level. It’s always wonderful when you get the chance to try things out that you never thought you would be able to do, to push yourself and your boundaries.

A release window for Tomb Raider has yet to be announced.
