How Sony’s E3 2006 Changed Gaming History

10 years ago this week, Sony ended up changing gaming history with their E3 2006 press conference. Sure, most will remember the pivotal event for the memes that would spawn out of it, but there’s a lot more to it than just Kaz Hirai unenthusiastically saying “Riiidge Racer!” There’s a lot of positives that came out of the two-hour event, but enough negatives that would setback Sony substantially during the first high definition console generation.

From the introduction to games that would go on to change the way storytelling was done in video games to games that are (somehow) still in development today, there’s a lot to digest here from a software standpoint as well. We’ve done our best to simplify the big takeaways from the event, and we’ve come up with 15 that ended up impacting gaming.
