Legal Battle Sparks Between Studios Over Creation of Ark: Survival Evolved

Studio Wildcard, the developer behind primordial Early Access hit Ark: Survival Evolved, has been hit by a lawsuit, calling the game’s immediate future into question.

Word comes by way of Kotaku, revealing that Game Designer Jeremy Stieglitz is being sued by his former studio, Trendy Entertainment. Best known for the Dungeon Defenders series, court documents unearthed by Kotaku cite Stieglitz as leaving the studio in August of 2014, when he agreed not to partake in any “competitive activities” for a full year, nor encourage fellow employees to join him in leaving.

However Trendy is asserting that Stieglitz is guilty of both, with the official response from Studio Wildcard claiming that he merely “consulted” on development. According to sources close to Ark: Survival Evolved, Stieglitz was heavily involved from the beginning.

As a result, Trendy Entertainment is filing for “injunctive relief and damages” and is pushing for legal action that will bring development on Ark to a halt.

It should be noted that the lawsuit is ongoing, with a further hearing expected to take place on April 24. Should more information come to light before then, however, we’ll let you know.
