While doing the press rounds in anticipation of Street Fighter V, Capcom Producer Yoshinori Ono has revealed that the company is hosting talks “at high levels” regarding a possible Onimusha revival.
Word comes by way of UK tabloid newspaper Daily Star, where Ono was quizzed about the dormant series. Here, he revealed that he had “spoken internally with people who made Onimusha with me originally and talked about maybe how interesting it would be to revisit that series. But fans should know that we’re not further down that road than the discussion phase.”
“All I can do for now is reassure fans that conversations are happening at high levels,” Ono continued. “We [Capcom] realise the need for different series to maybe come back into the forefront and although there’s nothing to talk about right now, I’m sure in the future there will be news on variety of series that will keep the fans happy. [Fan’s] favourites are going to come back.”
Speculation that the Onimusha series is set to stage a comeback did the rounds before the turn of the year, when a trademark filing suggested that Capcom was on the verge of bringing back the franchise.
It’s been a decade since the release of Dawn of Dreams in North America, but is the time right to revive Onimusha for PS4?
