Ark Survival Evolved Developer: “We Wish Sony Had an Early Access Program” on PS4

After mentioning on Twitter last month that players would have to ask Sony for an early access version of Ark: Survival Evolved on PlayStation 4, Studio Wildcard Co-founder and Creative Director Jesse Rapczak sat down with GameSpot to talk about the game.

Noting how a lot of people have been asking Studio Wildcard for PS4 early access, Rapczak said, “We wish Sony had an early access program,” as they are pretty excited about PS4 right now.

However, as he explained, Sony is only allowing select unfinished games to be released on PS4:

We just kind of got to say, ‘Well you know, it’s not really up to us. It’s the way Sony runs things, the game pretty much has to be finished.’ There are a few exceptions that we’re not quite sure why they made an exception for one game or the other, but Ark is in the state where at present time unless it’s finished, it’s not coming out on PS4 until they have some other program that allows us to do that. That being said we are really excited about it.

With Ark: Survival Evolved in early access on Xbox One, he says PS4 gamers will benefit from it. This is because “console gamers have lots of similarity” and “all of the feedback we’re getting from Xbox is really great for whatever console we ever launch Ark on.”

“It’s unfortunate that some gamers can’t experience that right now and take part in development as the Xbox players are,” he added, “but you know, I do encourage anybody who’s a PlayStation fan and has a PS4 to ask Sony for the program; maybe they’ll decide to let a game like ours be in an early access-type program.”

Ark: Survival Evolved is scheduled for release in summer 2016 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Studio Wildcard is expecting to be in alpha around March, then moving to beta a couple of months later with final polish and bug-fixing.
