On March 22 in North America, GungHo Online and developer Camouflaj will release the full season of Republique for PlayStation 4 through retail and digital stores. A European release will happen later in spring 2016.
Containing all five episodes, Republique is priced at $24.99 (USD)/$39.99 (CAD), with Atlus handling publishing. A limited Contraband Edition is available through NIS America’s store for $44.99 (USD), adding the soundtrack and The Manifesto, a 160 page book detailing about life inside Metamorphosis.
GungHo talked about the new PS4 control scheme:
Unique to the PS4 version of Republique is a new control scheme allowing players to control Hope, a young woman held captive inside Metamorphosis, a shadowy totalitarian state ruled by the omnipresent Overseer. By hacking into the secret nation’s elaborate surveillance network, players guide Hope on a treacherous and thrilling journey to freedom.
Designer Paul Alexander went on the PlayStation Blog to explain what Republique is all about:
For those of you not familiar with Republique, it’s a story-driven stealth action game heavily inspired by the 32-bit era. At the start of the game, players form a partnership with Hope, a young woman trapped inside a secret totalitarian nation called Metamorphosis. From there, players hack into surveillance cameras and guide Hope to freedom over the course of the five-part campaign.
Every episode introduces new enemies, environments, puzzles, and thematic elements, all feeding into a heavy commentary on privacy and security in the internet age.
Alexander adds that average first playthroughs last between 10 to 15 hours, and the Gravity Rush outfit exclusive to PS4 unlocks “unique gameplay features that transform the way you’ll experience the game in subsequent playthroughs.”
Also on March 22, the fifth and final episode, Terminus, will be made available on PC and mobile.
