Resident Evil 0 Gameplay Video Compares PS4 vs GameCube, Analysis Says It Runs at 30fps

In their latest analysis, Digital Foundry took a look at Resident Evil 0, comparing the new PlayStation 4 remaster to the GameCube version (played on a Wii), as you can see in the above video.

Going further in-depth with the PS4 version ahead of release next week, Digital Foundry says Resident Evil 0 runs at 30 frames-per-second, which is in line with the original Resident Evil remaster. Other improvements include 1080p widescreen presentation, upgrades to lighting and model details, and an optional new control scheme where movement is controlled by analog stick tilts.

They then talked about how cut-scenes are handled on PS4:

The original cut-scenes were rendered at 16:9 at the time of production, in a bordered format as they were output by the Wii and GameCube. Fortunately, this format works out perfectly for the remaster, and each cut-scene now simply fills a widescreen space on PS4 – with nothing cropped, or lost in the transition. In truth, these video sequences aren’t as crisp as the in-game backdrops, but they still link in seamlessly with the in-game action. It’s also a telling sign of how diligently Capcom’s archived this source material, after the project had drawn to a close.

While Digital Foundry was only able to focus on the opening of Resident Evil 0 due to embargo restrictions, they add, “Everything we’ve played so far points to an accomplished remaster of this classic. Effects are upgraded (notably to fire transparencies), and we’re seeing a bevy of smart visual upgrades wherever they’re possible.”

Resident Evil 0 will be available digitally on January 19 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. A retail bundle of Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil will be available on the same day for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
