Family of the deceased Angolan leader, Jonas Savimbi, has filed a lawsuit against Activision for its depiction of him in its 2012 title, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. According to a report by The Guardian, three of Savimbi’s children have filed the case in France, where they now live, for portraying him as a “barbarian.” They’re seeking €1m in damages from Activision’s French branch.
The family argues that Savimbi was a “political leader and strategist” but the game portrayed him as a “big halfwit who wants to kill everybody.” Activision Blizzard’s lawyer has dismissed the claim, stating that Savimbi was represented “for who he was … a character of Angolan history, a guerrilla chief who fought the MPLA.”
It remains to be seen how this will turn out in court.
