Yesterday, reports surfaced online claiming that The Elder Scrolls Online developer, ZeniMax Online Studios, had axed approximately 300 jobs. The layoffs had apparently hit the game’s customer support center in Ireland, according to the Connacht Tribune. Bethesda has now offered a clarification on the issue, explaining that it had “adjusted” customer support levels back in mid-August as per business requirements following the console launch of Tamriel Unlimited. Here’s the statement the publisher provided to several news outlets via email:
Following the successful console launch of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited in June, we have a thriving console and PC online community. We adjusted customer support levels in mid-August by reducing staffing by approximately 50 people to reflect the game’s stability and the needs of our players. This is a normal practice. We have been diligently working with the IDA, and the employees affected by this decision since the summer. We are disappointed by the inaccuracies in the report of the Connacht Tribune.
The Elder Scrolls Online is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC/Mac.
