Tomb Raider Developer Appoints New Studio Heads as Gallagher Departs Square Enix

Having shipped Rise of the Tomb Raider last month on Xbox, developer Crystal Dynamics announced today that Ron Rosenberg and Scot Amos are the new co-studio heads.

They actually took over a few months, “and the transition has been seamless” as Crystal Dynamics looks to grow the studio and portfolio.” Both veterans at Crystal Dynamics, “Scot and Ron each bring a unique skill set and each will focus on owning different aspects of running a studio, while ultimately making all major decisions together.”

Amos said:

Looking to the future, I’m thrilled to take the next steps of growing our studio and expanding our portfolio, while continuing to foster an environment where our developers can learn and grow as they craft beloved products.

Meanwhile, after more than 10 years with the company, Darrell Gallagher will be leaving Square Enix.

Most recently the Head of Product Development and Western Studios at Square Enix, Gallagher helped launch Rise of the Tomb Raider, Life is Strange, and Just Cause 3 this year, while also helping to set up next year’s launches of Hitman and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Prior to this, he was the Studio Head at Crystal Dynamics.

Phil Rogers, Square Enix CEO of the Americas and Europe, talked about Gallagher’s departure:

Today Darrell Gallagher announced that he is moving on from Square Enix at the end of this year. Darrell became head of Crystal Dynamics back in 2009, led that studio to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, and for the last 3 years he has led our western studios. I want to thank him for his tremendous effort and contribution to Square Enix, along with the amazing entertainment he has helped create. I am sad to see him go but respect his decision and we should all celebrate the sheer blood, sweat and tears he has put into our company over the last 10 years! We are excited for him and his family on their next chapter. We wish them the best of luck in the future.

Crystal Dynamics finished up the announcement by saying, “We’re looking forward to creating more exciting experiences for you in 2016.”

So far, we know the developer is working to bring Rise of the Tomb Raider to PC in early 2016, with a PlayStation 4 version arriving in late 2016.
