Quantic Dream: “No Plan” for Beyond: Two Souls Sequel, They Don’t Want to Make the Same Game Ten Times

As part of a Q&A on PlayStation.com, Quantic Dream Co-Founder David Cage revealed that there “is no plan” for a sequel to Beyond: Two Souls, which was recently released on PlayStation 4.

After revealing that Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe were his first choices for the roles – and that he had no second choices – Cage talked about the potential for Beyond: Two Souls 2:

No, there is no plan at the moment for a sequel to Beyond: Two Souls. We love starting new ideas and exploring different directions game after game.

I know this is quite unusual in the industry, but we don’t want to make the same game ten times, or feel too comfortable only doing things we know. We love the excitement of new risks to take, new things to try, new crazy ideas to explore; and see how our fans and the community will react.

Asked if there was anything he would change or add in Beyond: Two Souls if he had the opportunity, Cage said changing a game after launch compromises the sincerity of the work:

Actually, I don’t like to revisit my work afterwards. The game is what it is because I was who I was while I made it. It is like a Polaroid of yourself at one point in your life, you may want to change the picture, but it won’t change who you were.

I have this kind of integral version of my work; I put a lot of myself in every project and my approach is always genuine and sincere. Changing a game afterwards would compromise the sincerity of the work.

With the PS4 version of Beyond, Quantic Dream added the ability to play it in chronological order, increased the difficulty in a certain fight scene, and highlighted decisions at the end of each scene.

Quantic Dream is currently working on Detroit: Become Human for PS4.
