John Carpenter Told to Sue Kojima and Konami, Refuses Because Kojima is “a Nice Guy.”

Movie Director John Carpenter (Halloween) was told to sue video game creator Hideo Kojima and game developer Konami over Metal Gear Solid, but refused to do it.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Carpenter relates how CanalPlus, the company that co-owns Carpenter’s movie Escape From New York with him, tried to urge him to sue over Metal Gear Solid, as the company believed it ripped off Escape From New York. However, Carpenter apparently refused, saying that he didn’t want to because Kojima is a “nice guy.”

[CanalPlus] wanted to also go after the video game Metal Gear Solid, which is kind of a rip-off of Escape From New York, too, but I told them not to do that. I know the director of those games, and he’s a nice guy, or at least he’s nice to me.
