Square Enix: Next Final Fantasy Game Is Definite, Won’t Be a Sequel to Final Fantasy XV

As part of a big questionnaire in their 600th issue, Dengeki PlayStation spoke with a number of developers, including Capcom, who said, “We’re currently not at a state to talk about [Resident Evil 7]… but please stay tuned.”

Gematsu posted the full Dengeki Q&A, which also included Final Fantasy XV Game Director Hajime Tabata, who was asked what he wants to make after FFXV in 2016:

A next game is definite. I want to challenge large-scale even further. It won’t be a sequel to Final Fantasy XV, or a series that follows the flow of Final Fantasy Type-0.

Sticking with Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts 3 Game Director Tetsuya Nomura said, “I have tons of concepts that I’d like to work on given the chance, but I don’t have that opportunity right now.” As for KH3, you can expect more news at D23 on November 3.

Elsewhere, Koei Tecmo’s Yosuke Hayashi confirmed that “we’re not actually going ahead” with a new Ninja Gaiden, because they are working on a variety of projects. However, a lot of the staff wants to work on a new one.

Asked if a new Soul Sacrifice is in the works, Keiji Inafune said, “Try asking Sony Computer Entertainment. I’m also waiting.”

A new Siren, meanwhile, “won’t be realized without various circumstances being put in place, so it’s pretty difficult,” according to Sony Computer Entertainment’s Keiichiro Toyama. He also said, “The trailer [for Gravity Rush 2] showed a new town, but that’s just one part.”

Finally, Level-5 President Akihiro Hino said it’s possible Yo-kai Watch might appear on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation Vita. Hino said, “It’s possible we’ll require a new ‘field’ upon evolving to various forms of entertainment.” As for that PS4 game expected to be more epic than White Knight Chronicles, he said, “We’re properly at work on it. When the time comes, we will announce it.”
