Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune PS4 Analysis Says It’s The “Most Dramatically Improved” Nathan Drake Collection Title

Calling it “most dramatically improved game in the remastered trilogy,” Digital Foundry analyzed the performance of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune in Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection for PlayStation 4.

Deciding to look at each title individually after looking at the collection as a whole, the above video details the graphical improvements in Drake’s Fortune from PlayStation 3 to PS4. In the video below, you’ll see the PS4 version running at a near-locked 60 frames-per-second while the PS3 version struggles to maintain 30fps.

In their written analysis, Digital Foundry says Drake’s Fortune on PS4 runs at a full 60fps with v-sync engaged. In the rare instances when it doesn’t hit 60fps, there isn’t any screen-tearing as a result. Because of this, and all the other improvements, they say, “Of the three games included in this collection, Drake’s Fortune turns in the best performance.”

Looking at resolution, Drake’s Fortune PS4 is raised to a “a full 1080p with a post-process anti-aliasing solution,” whereas the PS3 version was at 1280×720 with 2x MSAA.

As for the pre-rendered cut-scenes, “video quality is a definite step down from The Last of Us Remastered but still an improvement over the original game.” While it may be a minor change, “‘Dip to black’ transitions are added to these sequences, allowing for smoother jumps between gameplay and cut-scene.”

You’ll find greatly improved loading times between the main menu and gameplay as well.

Digital Foundry also says the easier Explorer difficulty uses a soft lock system when holding the L2 trigger, and Crushing difficulty is available from the very beginning. If you manage to survive Crushing, Brutal will be unlocked.

All in all, Drake’s Fortune on PS4 “absolutely delivers” and is “truly one of the finest remasters we’ve seen to date.”
