Uncharted’s Nathan Drake Was Originally Influenced by Johnny Knoxville

Uncharted‘s Nathan Drake may be rugged and handsome now, but the original version of him was something a little more goofy.

According to Writer Josh Scherr, Drake was originally partially based off of actor Johnny Knoxville, who is probably most well known for the show Jackass. Scherr explained that this version of Drake, which can be seen above, was eventually scrapped in lieu of a character that better fit the traditional adventurer look. After looking at around 20 to 30 different actors, Scherr said that the studio finally settled on Drake’s current voice actor, Nolan North.

When Nolan came in, it was fairly clear that he was going to be the one. He had that right kind of devil may care feel to his voice, but he could also get serious when he needed to. And most importantly, as we discovered, is that the guy was hilarious.

How do you think the the Uncharted series would have been different if Nathan Drake looked more like Johnny Knoxville? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below, and remember that the free demo of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection will be available to download tomorrow.
