While it couldn’t overcome Batman: Arkham Knight or The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as the biggest opening of 2015, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was able to set a new record for highest week 1 in the franchise, beating Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty by just under 37%.
For a breakdown, The Phantom Pain sold 72% on PlayStation 4, with Xbox One at 22%, PlayStation 3 at 3%, and Xbox 360 at 2%.
Elsewhere for new releases, Mad Max debuted in 2nd place, Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse opened in 35th, and Rugby World Cup 2015 just managed to stay in the top 40, placing in 39th.
