After Dying Light developer Techland is finished with The Following DLC, working on a sequel to the popular game seems like a sure thing, but Producer Tymon Smektala revealed to Videogamer that it could be some time before we hear more news:
Of course, we’re not talking about [Dying Light 2] just yet, but the reason for that is that it is too early. We have lots of very ambitious ideas so first we need to check if these ideas are even doable with the tech that the current consoles provide.
Along with seeing if Dying Light 2 would work on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, they’d also need to see if “our concepts are really as good as we think they are.” So, for the time being, there’s nothing to talk about, but Smektala says to “expect good things from us” in the Dying Light universe.
Before working on Dying Light, Techland developed Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide. With Deep Silver having dropped Yager as the developer of Dead Island 2, Smektala said it was “sad news” because something like that could happen to any developer, but also because Dead Island “is our child.”
After teasing that he’d love to go back to Dead Island, Videogamer outright asked if he’d be interested in developing Dead Island 2 if Deep Silver asked them:
I would. As I said, I love Dead Island and I think there is a place for both franchises to strive in the market. As long as someone would be able to find something that would make them different, that would draw a clear line, ‘Okay, here’s Dead Island, here’s Dying Light’, and I think that’s doable, then why not?
Which game do you hope Techland works on next?
