It’s no secret by now that From Software has hit a goldmine with its challenging games starting with Dark Souls. But just how well has these games been accepted by the gaming public? Try eight million units sold for the entire Dark Souls franchise!
Courtesy of Famitsu, the stats reveal that the eight million units sold figure doesn’t include Demon Souls or the recently released, Bloodborne. It’s comprised entirely of the Dark Souls franchise and includes four games: the first Dark Souls, Dark Souls: Artorias of the Abyss expansion, Dark Souls 2 and remastered version, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin.
Dark Souls and the Artorias of the Abyss expansion sales are said to be at just over five million units sold combined, while Dark Souls 2 is just under two million. As for the now-gen release Scholar of the First Sin, it’s reported to be at around 530,000 units in total (for both PS4 and Xbox One combined). Oddly enough, it’s mentioned that the PC version of Dark Souls is the leader of the pack with reported sales of more than 3.25 million to date.
With sales figures as high as they are, it’s no surprise that From Software is hard at work on Dark Souls 3 for a 2016 release date for PC, and now-gen consoles.
Are you surprised at all with the franchise’s sales or is this to be expected given the franchise’s quality?
