Back in 2011, way before the Final Fantasy VII Remake became a reality, Square Enix Producer Yoshinori Kitase said that recreating a game like FFVII with the same volume and a higher level of graphical quality would take anywhere from three to ten times longer to make.
Thankfully, it doesn’t appear as Square Enix is planning on taking 10 years developing the Final Fantasy VII Remake, with Game Director Tetsuya Nomura telling Digital Spy that doing this remake was an “up-and-down, ongoing discussion” internally for some time. Now that it’s a reality, he wants to finish it as quickly as possible:
Now that we’ve finally announced it – because of the gravity of this game, it’s just such a large title, not only with the expectations, but the production of it also – [I’m] just looking forward to just getting through with it and finishing as quickly as [I] can, and just giving the final product and delivering it to the fans.
Looking at other comments from the past, Kitase said in February 2014 that a FFVII Remake would need to have staff, budget, and motivation all happen simultaneously for it to become a reality. As Nomura explained in the E3 2015 interview, that’s just what happened:
The availability of these three key members finally aligned, and we were able to see a window in which we can start the production with these creators. It made it possible for us to move forward with the project.
When the Final Fantasy VII Remake does launch on PlayStation 4, expect there to be some changes.
