When Horizon: Zero Dawn launches next year for the PlayStation 4, it will run at 1080p/30fps.
Confirming the news to Videogamer, Art Director Jan-Bart van Beek also revealed that Horizon is running on a modified version of the Killzone: Shadow Fall engine:
It is actually still the same engine but then [there is] an enormous leap from Shadow Fall to this. The Shadow Fall engine isn’t an open-world streaming world engine so for the last two years a lot of technological effort has gone into actually being able to make it work like this.
As for Killzone: Shadow Fall, it initially ran at an unlocked frame-rate that could go higher than 30fps, but Guerrilla added the ability to cap it at 30fps in a post-launch update. The resolution of Shadow Fall, meanwhile, led to a lawsuit that was recently settled out of court.
Another PS4-exclusive, Until Dawn, is also running on the Killzone: Shadow Fall engine.
