As part of a software update yesterday, Logitech has added PlayStation 4 support to their hub-based Harmony remotes and Harmony app.
Something their “customers have been asking for for some time,” this PS4 compatibility update allows you to use the remote or app to “control Blu-Ray movies and streaming apps including Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Instant Video, and more.”
While it isn’t supported for everything, the Harmony mobile app allows you to enter text to find shows or movies, or when using the PlayStation 4 web browser.
The one downside is that you’ll still need to power on your PS4 through other means, with Logitech explaining that Sony doesn’t allow anything but the DualShock 4 to turn the console on:
One thing we do need to mention is, unfortunately, this update does not allow you to power your PlayStation on directly – Sony does not permit any remote other than their game controller to power on the game console. So you’ll need to turn your PlayStation on first, before you sit down with your remote. But, once powered on, Harmony will automatically use Bluetooth to connect and enable control of your PlayStation.
You can find full details on how to use Harmony with your PS4 over here. As they note, “If you had added PS4 to your Harmony account prior to May 27, you must re-add it.”
Will you be using the Harmony remote or app to control your PS4 from now on?
