While we have to wait until EA’s E3 2015 press conference on June 15 to see the Need for Speed reboot’s gameplay for the first time, the official Twitter account confirmed some news about the game recently, including that an internet connection is required to play:
@DeanRheims NFS will require an online connection, but the benefits are nice. More variety and a more rewarding experience with friends.

They then expanded on the reasons for requiring an internet connection:
“To deliver the best experience possible and make playing with friends more rewarding, an online connection will be required.”
“You will need to be online, but this allows us to push the boundaries of the overall experience we can deliver to the fans.”
“Being connected will allow your friends to be part of your narrative experience, something only possible through connected play.”
You don’t have to worry about Need for Speed being a multiplayer-only experience, as it includes “both multiplayer and single player.” They’ll have more information on the single player modes in the future.
As part of a few other questions, the Twitter account said you’ll be able to choose from multiple camera angles, “but the cockpit view didn’t make it in this time.” When asked about 60fps gameplay, they replied, “We will confirm at a later date, but Need for Speed is about super high production values when it comes to graphics.”
Need for Speed will also include dedicated servers and great improvements to the AllDrive system.
The Need for Speed reboot is set to launch in Fall 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
If a recent leak by the Xbox Games Store is to be believed though, it’ll release on November 3. That leak also highlights five ways to play (Speed, Style, Build, Crew and Outlaw), a west coast urban setting and multiple overlapping stories.
