Sony Files Trademark for “The Player” With the USPTO

Sony has filed a trademark application for something called “The Player,” but we have yet to find out what exactly that is.

Filed on May 18 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the trademark covers two categories: “downloadable electronic game software; video game software” and “entertainment services in the nature of a dramatic television series.”

Although no other details are provided, E3 2015 is right around the corner now so it’s possible that we’ll learn more about it during the event.

Sony’s E3 2015 conference is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 15, at 6pm PT/9pm ET.
