Report: Sony’s New Studio in North West England Employing Former Evolution Studios Employees

Yesterday, it was revealed that Sony is setting up a new studio in North West England, one that will focus on creating Project Morpheus games. Now, some new details on the studio have emerged, including information on who will actually be employed in the studio.

According to Eurogamer, which apparently has some inside connections with people close to the studio, SCE North West is being set up in Manchester, and it will be employing at least a few former Evolution Studios staff members.

The DriveClub developer lost around 55 staff members in March after Sony decided to downsize it, but, since Evolution Studios is also located in the UK, it looks like Sony was able to snag some of those laid off employees and hire them for SCE North West.

When asked by Eurogamer about the new studio, Sony was a bit hesitant to give away any information, merely saying that it is “currently focused on hiring the right team” and that more information will be available soon.

We are still in the early planning phase with this studio, and are currently focused on hiring the right team.

We look forward to sharing more news and formal announcements in the near future.

Hopefully, some news on what types of games SCE North West will be making for Sony’s Project Morpheus will be at least hinted at soon.
