Suggestion That Hideo Kojima Has Been Fired is “Categorically Incorrect,” Says Konami

Earlier today, Donna Burke, who sang the theme songs for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, suggested that Hideo Kojima was fired from Konami after tweeting, “Yes don’t throw away the Kojima teams work over the last 5 years because upper management fired a genius.”

When asked by a Twitter user if she just confirmed Kojima was indeed fired, she added, “Yes but it’s been out in the media for weeks..but it’s true.”

Following this though, Konami contacted Videogamer, with a representative saying the suggestion that Kojima has been fired is “categorically incorrect.”

From what we’ve heard in recent weeks, Hideo Kojima will remain involved with The Phantom Pain development until it launches in September. After that, it doesn’t appear as if Kojima will be a part of the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

While we now know it’s incorrect, Burke’s original comment about Kojima being fired was in response to a tweet by Snake’s Japanese voice actor Akio Otsuka, who said (translated by JunkerHQNet), “The TPP team is the same, so please don’t cancel pre-orders or encourage others not to buy it.”
