Titan Souls Trailer Shows the Evolution From Game Jam Title to Full PS4, PS Vita Release

Releasing on April 14 in North America and April 15 in Europe for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita (with cross-buy), Titan Souls from Acid Nerve was given a new trailer this week that looks at its evolution from a Game Jam title to a full game.

Composer David Fenn talked about the prototype:

Titan Souls wouldn’t have existed if it wasn’t for the original Ludum Dare game jam, which saw your hero take down three titans with a single arrow, and gave birth to the core concept behind the entire game. Now that the development is complete, we thought it’d be fun to celebrate our journey by remaking this original sample of Titan Souls, replacing the bosses with their full-game counterparts that each of these initial ideas evolved into, and enhancing it with the new engine, graphics and audio.

A Shadow of the Colossus-inspired boss rush game, Titan Souls is “intensely difficult” and has you fighting a boss one vs one where you have one hit point, one arrow, and one task – hit their weak spot.

In terms of differences between the prototype and final game, the full release includes 1080p/60fps gameplay; 360 degree aim and movement; New Game Plus; a much bigger world, many more Titans, and numerous areas with hidden secrets; better-balanced, more complex and varied Titans; engine, art, animation, and sountrack remade from scratch; and loads more polish.

If you’re unfamiliar with Titan Souls, here’s the description:

Between our world and the world beyond lie the Titan Souls, the spiritual source and sum of all living things. Now scattered amongst the ruins and guarded by the idle titans charged with their care, a solitary hero armed with but a single arrow is once again assembling shards of the Titan Soul in a quest for truth and power.

  • Colossal Titans – Explore the ancient ruins of your forefathers and uncover extraordinary and unique titans, each with their own savage attacks and hidden weakness. Find and exploit their faults to slay the beasts and consume the primeval power that lies within them.
  • Simple Combat – Loose your solitary arrow at the monstrous titans and summon it back to your hand to unleash another forceful strike. Dash and run from the titan’s attacks but do not fear death, as it is both inevitable and plentiful in Titan Souls.
  • Arcane Secrets – This realm is not without its secrets. Long forgotten titans are hidden in the shadows and prowling through the furthest corners of the land – find them, destroy them, and take their souls for your own to discover the true extent of the power that resides here.

Titan Souls will cost $9.99, with PlayStation Plus members in North America getting it for $8.99 during launch thanks to the Spring Fever promotion.

Will you be picking up Titan Souls this month?
